TerraVita uses vermiculture, the system of mimicking the natural processes of our waste cycle. Worms facilitate the waste process by breaking down a large amount of biomass, which makes the minerals available to the plants. Worms casting are also high in beneficial bacteria. Farmers have noticed that crops that use worm castings are more productive.
At TerraVita we are building a commercial system by collecting local, organic food waste. We will then turn the waste into compost, also known as black gold, and use in our soil fertility practices and sell to community members.
